Year in Review: Haverfordwest County Walking Football Celebrate a Busy Season

Haverfordwest County’s Walking Football community gathered at the Ogi Bridge Meadow clubhouse on Wednesday 17 December for a warm year‑end review — a good turnout, bowls of cawl and plenty of stories to mark a season of growth, achievement and character.

Treasurer and MC Dean Flood opened the evening by reflecting on a year that has seen membership rise and the club knit more closely into the Haverfordwest County family. Training twice weekly on the Ogi Bridge Meadow 3G pitch, he said, has raised standards and helped build confidence across all sections. Special thanks were given to Alaric and Harry for their support, and to Jane for her unfailing welcome after sessions.

The club’s squads were celebrated in turn. The Ladies section enjoyed a breakthrough year: winners of the charity festival at Ogi Bridge Meadow in February, and an impressive debut in the Welsh League where they remain unbeaten across two league days — eight wins and two draws, 18 goals scored and none conceded. Manager‑coach Leanne Jones was singled out for praise for her work on and off the pitch; Dean presented her with a light‑hearted gift in recognition of her tireless admin and community work.

Haverfordwest County Walking Football

The Over‑50s showed real potential. Despite a mixed league campaign they lifted the charity‑festival trophy after a dramatic final decided by a Marc Petrie penalty, with Steven “Pele” Price named player of the tournament. Pele was honoured with a “lucky” coffee mug for his contribution.

The Over‑60s were lauded for their competitiveness and for hosting the West Wales League day on 20 July. Player‑manager Gareth Holden received a tongue‑in‑cheek compass for his efforts, and Andy Roach was presented with a Wales cap for his international appearance.

The Over‑70s made history in the inaugural All‑Wales play‑offs, finishing runners‑up in Newtown and keeping three clean sheets. Dean paid tribute to captain Paul Williams and non‑playing manager Mark Seymour, presenting each with a token of appreciation. Rob Harries was celebrated for scoring all seven of Wales’ goals at the Over‑70s Nations Cup and for further appearances with the Wales Dragons; Dan Griffiths also earned national honours.

Off the pitch the club raised £640 for SNAP Playgroup at its charity festival, secured sponsorship from ten local businesses to kit out the teams, and enjoyed a social tour to Ireland in September. Dean closed by thanking everyone for their commitment and community spirit and looking ahead to another busy season.
