A charity walking football session in Weston-super-Mare has raised funds for Parkinson’s UK.
The event on Sunday, August 17, played between two teams made up of players dealing with health issues, including Parkinson’s Disease, took place for two hours at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre outdoor pitches.
The session was played in front of more than a dozen spectators, all of whom contributed to the charitable cause.
The Western Rebels, who hosted the match, were joined by other supporting players, playing against the Taunton Trailblazers.
The two teams have played annually for two years, fostering a friendship in the process.
Despite the Trailblazers winning the match, the primary objective was to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK, which will potentially help with treatment and finding a cure.
The Trailblazers were so taken with the Rebels’ hospitality and the facilities at the Leisure Centre that some of their players wish to join the Rebels’ regular Monday morning sessions of walking football.
These sessions are specifically designed for individuals with physical or mental health issues, or those returning from long-term injury or illness.
