Burwash entered a team into the Tonbridge Angels FC Over 60’s Walking Football Tournament for the second time and once again ended winning the Plate Competition
The Burwash squad was Chris Jones in goal, Clive Branford, Roy Smith, Doc Thody, Dave Brett, Richard O’Dwyer with Peter Manning & Kevin Clarke sharing up front duties. Every player contributed with good performances individually and as a team.
It’s understood that Burwash have now played 15 matches at this tournament over the two competitions with only 1 defeat. A great day for the club and all credit to the squad.
Originally the tournament was to be over 65’s but the organisers changed it to over 60’s late in the day which meant that the Burwash squad was the oldest there with an average age of 69!
The host team, Tonbridge, won the competition with Burwash contesting the Plate and running-out worthy winners
Peter Manning scored 3 very good goals including the winner in the final – the septuagenarian rolling back the years. The squad of players rotated to great effect despite the heat and Burwash being the oldest squad present. The hosts complimented the team describing them as the best side they played on the day and extended an invitation for Burwash to join future matches v Tonbridge.
