Eastbourne Borough Women’s Over-40s walking football squad proudly took two teams, made up of 13 players, to Santa Ponsa for the Mallorca Football Tournament.
Both teams played five round-robin league games against strong opposition from Poland, Italy, Scotland (Rangers) and England (Chesham).
After some fantastic performances, Borough Pink finished third in the league standings, while Borough Red finished sixth, setting up an all-Borough quarter-final.
The quarter-final was a competitive and hard-fought match, with Borough Pink coming through 3-1 against Borough Red.
In the semi-final, Borough Pink faced a very strong and talented young Polish side. After an incredibly tight game, the Polish team edged the match 1-0.
Borough Pink then went on to play Chesham in the 3rd/4th place play-off. The game finished 0-0 and went to penalties. After three penalties each, the scores remained level at 1-1, taking the shootout into sudden death.
Borough’s goalkeeper then produced a fantastic save before stepping up to score the winning penalty herself, securing an outstanding 3rd place overall finish for Eastbourne Borough.
It was an incredible achievement by everyone involved, with great teamwork, determination and club spirit shown throughout the tournament. Well done to all the players who represented Eastbourne Borough Women’s Walking Football so proudly.
