One Cheshire walking football league season has concluded and another is about to.

The final matchday of the men’s over 60s league was played out on the 3G pitch at Moss Farm in Northwich, where sides from Northwich, Buxton, Altrincham, Chester, Bolton, Stockport, Warrington and Neston were battling it out for finishing positions on the table.

It was the eighth such day of the campaign, with each team’s usual five 15-minute matches being increased to seven over 12 minutes.

After the completion of the 35 matches per team, Wirral side Neston Nomads were the runaway champions followed by Bolton Arena second, Culcheth Amblers third, Stockport fourth, Northwich fifth, Chester sixth, Altrincham seventh and Buxton eighth.

Teams and performances have improved with each passing matchday over the course of the 2025/26 season.

Fran Perez, who organises and runs the Cheshire walking football leagues, has been praised for doing a great job.

Meanwhile, the women’s over 40s walking football league will have its final matchday on the 3G pitch at Moss Farm on Sunday, May 17.

The current standings show a close call for the title between Egerton Amazons and 1874 Northwich Weavers.

After 30 matches, the two sides are level on 58 points but Egerton are top thanks to their +17 goal difference compared to 1874’s +16.

In third are Nantwich Ladies with 48 points, followed by Runcorn Saxons Gangum 44, Chester Women 35, Coedpoeth Dragonesses 35, 1874 Northwich Danes 24, Stockport County Hatters 18.
