Essex Walking Football League victories for Romford FC

Romford Walking FC enjoyed a strong second round of fixtures, with both the Over 70s and Over 50s sides producing encouraging performances in the Essex Walking Football League.

Following the latest set of matches, Romford Over 70s remain unbeaten in Division Two and are yet to concede a goal.

The opening game saw the league’s top two sides meet, with leaders Southend taking on the second-placed Romford team of Chris Woolf, Ray Sapsford, Kevin Dignam, Keith Rogers, Liam Crowley, John Noble, Bob Williams and Colin Giles.

It was a tight contest, settled by a Dignam penalty which secured a 1-0 win for Romford.

The remaining two fixtures ended goalless, with draws against Leyton Orient and Concord Rangers maintaining their solid start to the campaign.

Goalkeeper Woolf was in outstanding form throughout the day, making a series of excellent saves and denying Concord Rangers from the penalty spot to preserve another clean sheet.

Romford Over 50s also took part in their second set of fixtures in the Essex Walking Football League First Division.

They began with a goalless draw against Beacon Hill, before showing improvement in the second match with a 1-0 victory over Billericay, courtesy of a well-taken winner from Dave Ellis.

The team who are sponsored by NiBs buses, rounded off the day with a dominant display against Stanway Rovers, cruising to a 3-0 win.

Ellis added to his tally before Paul Sykes and Dave King also found the net, capping a convincing performance.

The results leave Romford Over 50s well placed in third position in the table as momentum continues to build.
