Mark Stevenson started the walking football team alongside Matthew Clarke, his Co-founder, because he wanted an accessible way for men over 40 to exercise.

Mark stated that their group is “Focussed on good nature”, and stressed the importance of “Staying active, going out and talking to other people. It is important that those who have suffered injuries are still able to play football. It is also great for mental health and weight loss”

Mark started the group just over 2 years ago because he felt that there was a gap in the market for it – “I felt like there wasn’t anywhere local to me that promoted exercise and positive mental health for men.”

The group has gone from strength to strength since its inception.

They currently have 43 members; this number has more than doubled since the starting of the group and they now meet two nights a week, rather than the original one night, to allow everybody a chance to play.

Paul Reeves is a player on the team, who said “Gorleston Walking Football has been fantastic for my mental health, giving me something positive to look forward to each week and helping me stay active and focussed.”

“It’s also been a great way to make new, good friends and feel part of a welcoming, supportive community.”

This event will be a great way for the team to exercise and raise money for charity.
