A Carlisle walking football team were crowned champions of a major tournament in Hull at the weekend.
Carlisle Ladies Walking Football Team are celebrating after being crowned Queen’s Tournament Cup Champions on Sunday, August 2.
After a closely contested match against Forest Vets Pink, the cup was decided by a nail-biting penalty shootout, which Carlisle Ladies won.
The team was established after the Covid-19 pandemic with funding from Sport England and Age UK North Cumbria.
When the initial funding ended, volunteers took over running the team.
A spokesperson for the club said: “When the initial funding came to an end, a dedicated group of volunteers took over the running of the team, ensuring it continued to grow and provide opportunities for women to stay active, make friends and enjoy football.
“Thanks must also go to Kingmoor Consulting who kindly provide sponsorship to the club.”
The club welcomes women of all ages and abilities.
Weekly sessions take place on Fridays from 5pm to 6pm at Soccer World, in Carlisle, and on Mondays from 2pm to 3pm in the Sports Hall at the University of Cumbria, Carlisle.
The Monday sessions are supported by Age UK North Cumbria.
