The women’s team from Romford Walking FC recently took part in the Essex Women’s Walking Football League Cup. Meanwhile, the men’s over-70s team competed in the Essex Walking Football League Cup.
The team of Chris Woolf, Ray Sapsford, Paul Poole, Bob Williams, Keith Rogers, Ian Weaver, Liam Crowley and John Noble, were drawn in a group with Chelmsford City, Harlow Town, and Norwich.
Their opening game against Chelmsford ended in a goalless draw, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.
The match against Harlow was more open.
Harlow took the lead with a fine strike before doubling their advantage when a shot took a deflection off joint player-manager Ray Sapsford, wrong-footing goalkeeper Chris Woolf.
Romford pulled a goal back through a penalty converted by joint player-manager Keith Rogers, but Harlow held on for the win.
Romford’s final group game saw Norwich take an early lead and they remained in control to secure a 1-0 victory.
The result meant Romford’s over-70s failed to reach Finals Day for the first time in four years.
