Stratford Town Walking Football Club Over-50s reach WFA Cup West Midlands Regional Final after shootout triumph

Stratford Town Over-50s booked their place in the WFA Cup West Midlands Regional Final after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over established walking football club Birmingham WFC.

The tie lived up to expectations, with both sides producing an entertaining and fiercely contested encounter.

Stratford made the perfect start when Paul Marsh opened the scoring with a stunning strike to give the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.

Birmingham responded well in the second half and found an equaliser through Mick Cox, whose superb effort flew into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

With the match finely balanced and the prospect of penalties looming, Stratford pushed hard for a late winner. They came agonisingly close on two occasions, striking the woodwork twice, before Paul Marsh was inches away from securing victory when his effort drifted narrowly wide.

With neither side able to find a decisive goal, the match went to penalties.

Stratford kept their composure from the spot, with Paul Clarke and Simon Plank both converting confidently.

Paul Murtagh was Birmingham’s only successful penalty taker as Stratford emerged 2-1 winners in the shootout to seal a memorable victory.

The result sees Stratford Town progress to the West Midlands Regional Final, where they will face Birmingham Premier League champions Solihull Moors.

Club chairman Paul Clarke said: “For a club less than a year old, reaching a regional cup final is another remarkable milestone and a testament to the hard work, determination and togetherness of everyone involved.”
