An unbeaten run on the pitch has helped raise more than £1,200 for a hospice.

Wrexham Walking Football Club triumphed in the Over-60s tournament at the North Wales Summer Cup held in St Asaph on Sunday, while also contributing to fundraising efforts for St Kentigern Hospice.

The tournament featured three teams from the club, with two competing in the Over-50s category and one in the Over-60s.

The Over-60s team delivered a standout performance, going unbeaten and not conceding a single goal across eight matches.

Ian Rowley, manager of Wrexham’s Over-60s team, said: “It was a fantastic day of football and a great cause.

“To go through the tournament unbeaten, play eight matches, and not concede a single goal is a tremendous achievement.

“We are proud to have supported St Kentigern Hospice and would like to thank the organisers, volunteers, and all the teams who took part.

“The fact that more than £1,200 has been raised so far for such a worthwhile cause makes the day even more special.”

The team secured the title in a penalty shootout against Amlwch after a goalless final.

The tournament, which attracted eight Over-60s teams from across North Wales, was organised in aid of St Kentigern Hospice, which provides care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses across North East Wales.

Cllr Rosalind Williams, mayor of St Asaph, presented the trophies and congratulated all teams on a successful day of football and fundraising.

The club also expressed gratitude to its sponsors for their ongoing support, including Ash Waste Services, The Turf, LB Motors, and Acton Community Council.

“Wrexham Walking Football Club would like to thank its sponsors and supporters for their continued backing.

“The club is proud to be supported by Ash Waste Services, The Turf, LB Motors and Acton Community Council, whose contributions help provide opportunities for older players to stay active, enjoy competitive football and represent Wrexham at tournaments across North Wales and beyond.”

The final fundraising total is expected to rise as further donations continue to come in.
