Romford Over 70’s entered their final two sessions of The Essex Walking Football League Second Division sitting top of the league.
First up was a game against their nearest rivals Southend. With nothing to split the two teams the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Next up was Chelmsford City and although Boro were the more dominant team, Chelmsford snatched a breakaway goal late on but in the dying seconds Paul Poole equalised with a fine strike as the game finished 1-1. The final game of first session was against third placed Leyton Orient.
Romford raced into the lead within two minutes when Paul Poole slotted home, but sloppy play allowed Orient to equalise.
Orient were awarded a penalty when John Noble was adjudged to have stepped in the area, and Romford suffered their first defeat of the season.

The final session of games saw Romford kick off in a determined mood against Billericay Whites as they ran out 4-1 winners with goals from Kevin Dignam (2), Paul Poole and John Noble.
Next up was Billericay Blue’s which was a much closer affair as the game ended in a 0-0 draw. It was good news for Boro though as results elsewhere meant that Romford couldn’t be caught, so claimed the Second Division title for the first time, making it all the more sweeter as it is their tenth anniversary year.
The final game was a bit of a non-event against Heybridge Swifts which was decided by the award of a penalty to Heybridge who won the game 1-0, but the day belonged to Romford who were presented with the Second Division shield and their medals after the session.
