Among 55 national associations, the bid submitted by the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) was selected to take part in the historic inaugural Walking Football Tournament, hosted at UEFA headquarters in Nyon. Alongside the football associations of Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Scotland, Germany and Spain, the HFF will represent Greece within the framework of the “Football is Our Home” program, in collaboration with the team of Shedia magazine.
For Greece, this is a particularly significant—and symbolic—participation, shared with countries that have a rich footballing tradition.
Walking Football, with its simple rule that players do not run but move only by walking, demonstrates that the joy of the game, participation, and teamwork are stronger than age. The initiative is aimed at men and women over the age of 55, promoting light physical activity, social inclusion, and well-being through football.
The Greek delegation consists of nine players aged over 60 who, in just a few weeks of training, formed a united and dynamic team. The delegation includes Mr. Theocharis, Mr. Vasileios, Mr. Antonios and Ms. Orthodoxia, Ms. Efi, Ms. Eugenia, and Ms. Kalliopi.
Traveling alongside them as active members of the delegation are former international footballer Savvas Kofidis and beloved actor Takis Vamvakidis.
The team’s coach is Periklis Papapanagis, while Katrin Kretschmer serves as delegation manager. Representing the Hellenic Football Federation, Ioannis Charalampakis, the Federation’s Social & Environmental Sustainability Manager, will accompany the team.
The Hellenic Football Federation proudly supports this unique delegation, which carries a powerful message of inclusion and optimism: football belongs to everyone, knows no age limits, and has the power to bring people together and change lives.
