Coedpoeth Walking Football Club’s over-70s side have been crowned North Wales champions for the first time, going unbeaten through the entire 24-match competition.
The team finished 10 points clear at the top to claim the title, which arrives in the year the club is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Team captain Alan Edwards said: “It’s a wonderful achievement for a community club like ours to win our first regional trophy, and we couldn’t have picked a better year to do it.
“It was a tremendous effort by the whole squad. All of us have represented Wales at various times, which gives us real strength in depth.”

The title-winning squad was Alan Edwards (captain), Dave Plack, David Williams, Geoff Pilmoor, Les Williams, Dave Donaghy, Peter Evason, Keith Hughes, Pete Dessington, Nigel Williams and Neil Benson.
The club had twice finished runners-up in the North Wales walking football league before this season’s success, and marked its tenth anniversary with a celebration tournament earlier this year.
Twenty players from the club have represented Wales at various age-group levels over the past decade, and two of the championship squad, Dave Donaghy and Geoff Pilmoor, won walking football and running football World Cup titles with Wales over two days in Copenhagen in 2021.
As champions, Coedpoeth now go forward to the Wales play-off finals alongside runners-up Deeside, with the finals taking place in Newtown next month.
“We’re all looking forward to an enjoyable day,” said Alan Edwards, “and we’ll be doing everything we can to bring the national title home to North Wales.”
