Eastleigh Walking Football Club’s over-70s team narrowly missed out on the national cup.
In the Walking Football Association National Cup in Nottingham, the team battled their way to the final, seeing off Harrogate and Matlock with scores of 2-1 and 2-0, respectively, after a goalless draw against Worthing.
Their semi-final against Preston ended 2-2, but Eastleigh secured their place in the final through a successful penalty shootout.
Facing Norwich, the reigning champions for the past two years, Eastleigh staged a commendable comeback from 2-0, only to be defeated by a late goal.
This marked Eastleigh’s first venture into the final at the over-70s level, although they have previously clinched the trophy three times at the over-65s level.
Manager Les Gatrell expressed pride in his team and is already eyeing victory in next year’s competition.
