Two members of Eastleigh’s Walking Football Club have received national recognition.

Heather Kirkland and Sarah Harper were recognised in the Walking Football Association’s annual Grass Roots Awards.

Ms Kirkland was named Female Referee of the Year for her contributions to developing female walking football referees in the south, and her work refereeing and mentoring in Brazil.

Her refereeing approach has been described as “calm but assertive.”

Heather is well known in footballing circles and has also represented England as a walking football player.

Sarah Harper, meanwhile, was highly commended as a coach at Eastleigh.

She has played a significant role in developing Eastleigh’s ladies teams, who compete in the Hampshire League, just two years after their inception.

In addition to coaching newcomers to the sport, she also works with Eastleigh’s Mobility Group.

Ms Harper is also an England walking football international player.
