Bideford’s walking footballers travel to the Midlands for a brand new experience.
Bideford Walking Football Club has returned home celebrating a successful first-ever tour after taking on Midlands side Boldmere St Michaels in a pair of friendly matches.
The club, which meets weekly at Bideford College and boasts players ranging in age from 55 to 86, travelled to the Birmingham area for the historic occasion. Bideford is currently North Devon’s only walking football club affiliated to the Devon FA.
The touring side played two seven-a-side fixtures against Boldmere St Michaels Walking Football Club, whose members proved to be excellent hosts throughout the visit.

Although Bideford were beaten in the opening encounter, they bounced back impressively to claim victory in the second match.
The win was particularly noteworthy given the strength of the opposition, with Boldmere St Michaels competing in a highly competitive Birmingham walking football league.
Adding an extra layer of interest to the occasion is the shared history between the two clubs. Boldmere St Michaels Football Club, whose senior side plays at the same level of the non-league pyramid as Bideford AFC, was founded in the same year as the Robins.

Club officials described the tour as a memorable experience and an important milestone in the continued growth of walking football in North Devon.
The friendship established between the two clubs is set to continue, with Bideford already planning to host a return fixture next year.
The successful tour highlights the increasing popularity of walking football, a sport that allows players to continue enjoying competitive football while promoting fitness, friendship and wellbeing well into later life.
