Stratford Town Walking Football Club’s over-50s bowed out of the WFA National Cup following a closely fought 1-1 draw against Solihull Moors in Redditch.

Paul Clarke gave Stratford the lead before half-time, but Pete Johnson equalised for the Birmingham Premier League champions after the break.

Stratford showed tremendous resilience, holding firm despite playing 20 per cent of the match with one player fewer. With the teams still level at full-time, Moors progressed after winning the penalty shootout 3-2.

“Although the result did not go our way, everyone connected with Stratford Town can be immensely proud of the players and our first-ever WFA Cup campaign,” said Clarke, who is also the club’s chairman.

“It was another valuable experience and a strong foundation on which to build. Well done to everyone involved. We’ll be back.”
