Walking football festival to raise funds for Prostate Scotland

Funds will be raised for Prostate Scotland during this year’s walking football tournament at Netherdale.

Gala Fairydean Rovers will be hosting the competition, with the Hugh Nicolson Memorial Trophy up for grabs.

The tournament will be contested by two teams from Gala FR, two from Tweedvale, two from Dunfermline Dynamos and teams from Musselburgh Windsor, Oriam, Dunbar and Stenhousemuir.

Graeme McIver, chair of the Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust, said: “Our tournament has become a fixture in the events calendar for walking football clubs from the east of Scotland.

“So this year, we decided to use the occasion to raise funds for charity.

“Prostate Scotland was very happy to support the event and all profits will go to them.

“We have been helped this year by several local businesses and we’re grateful to them for their financial contributions.”

The trophy is named in memory of a much-loved member of Gala Fairydean Rovers Walking Football Club, who sadly passed away in 2023.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday (June 28) at 1pm. Entry is free and there will be a chance to donate towards Prostate Scotland.
