Walking Football is one of the most popular initiatives delivered by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and participant Sue Baines tells us how the programme has enabled her to fulfil her ‘childhood dream’.
Having first attended a session in 2022, Sue got her first taste of international football this year and, along with fellow participant Ally O’Donnell, she was able to continue her journey!
This month the pair competed in the Almelo City Cup in the Netherlands, with a number of teams from different countries represented.
Both male and female teams competed over the two day tournament held at HERACLES Football Club, with Sue representing England Walking Football community (EWFC) in the over 55s (EWFC 1) and Ally in the over 40s.(EWFC 2), as Sue explains.
“We played three matches on the first day winning all three games. Day 2 we played a further three games which saw us progress to the semi-finals. Ally’s team had also won their semi-final which therefore saw us meet each other in an all England Final…
In addition, last weekend, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s women’s walking football over 40 and over 50s teams participated in the Dick Kerr Ladies walking football tournament in Preston.
Both teams played extremely well and the over 50s won the Dick Kerr Ladies Shield, beating Radcliffe by two goals to nil in the final.
