Middlesex FA is proud to honour Mick Geraghty with his FA 50-Year Service Medal, recognising an extraordinary lifetime of commitment to grassroots football.
The medal was jointly presented to Mick by Middlesex FA Chair Philina Toiny and Middlesex FA President Barbara Bivens, acknowledging his remarkable impact across five decades.
Mick’s journey began in 1971 at Colville Boys Club, where he combined playing with assistant coaching. Over the next three decades, he contributed to a long list of local clubs – Garrett Rovers, Parkside FC, Brookhouse FC, and Torchbearers FC – while also playing a key administrative role as Divisional League Secretary in the Sunday Sportsman’s League.
His influence extended far beyond matchdays. Mick represented football on the Sports Committee of the Middlesex Boys and Young People’s Clubs and later led West Drayton Boys Club as chairman, coach, and fixture secretary. He went on to manage youth sides at Denham United and spent eight influential years at Hayes FC, including taking charge of reserve and youth teams.
From 2002, he continued to support the game as a freelance coach and match analyst before becoming one of Middlesex’s most impactful figures in Walking Football. As founder of Uxbridge Amblers Walking FC and creator of Forget Me Not FC, a dementia and Parkinson’s walking football project, Mick has played a pioneering role in making football accessible to older players and those with additional needs. He also serves as a disability coach with the Disablement Association of Hillingdon and leads Walking Football activity with the QPR Trust and Hillingdon Council.
Within Middlesex FA, Mick is a vocal advocate for Walking Football development and currently serves as Middlesex FA Walking Football League Secretary, as well as a member of the FA’s national Advisory Group for Walking Football.
