Compton FC Walking Football

Compton FC are pleased to announce the further extension of their footballing family. Last year we added the depth of youth to the club (including an Under16’s Girls Team) – This time we are going to the other end of the family tree – the Granddads! Football is football whatever speed its played at.

The team was setup by a bunch of friends, some of whom played football together about 30 years ago. Most have not been in contact a lot since then until a few posts, via a Southampton league Memories Facebook group, during the lockdown in 2020. All of them are 50+, and met up initially for a bit of fun and banter to beat the lockdown mindset.

New interns have been added since, which has now culminated in a team who compete in the Hampshire FA Walking Football league tournaments (once a month) and have been pretty successful in those tournaments. They are looking to compete in the National WFA Over 50’s Cup from next season.

Originally known as Boorley Green Walking Football, they have now moved to come under the umbrella of Compton FC for the 2022/2023 season, many of the team having strong connections through the club (Playing and Managing over the years) so there is a strong affinity with the club already. With this move the Walking Football section are looking to grow and welcome new members (be aware that there is no holes barred on the banter, so new participants will be in need of a strong constitution!)

The Team train every Thursday 19:00 – 20:00 At Botley recreation Ground (MUGA) – session fees are £5.00 per person and does include a post-match beverage so great value!
