Every Monday afternoon there is training on the synthetic turf field of FC Meppel. Women aged 40 and older, who like to move, with/without football experience are welcome during these training sessions at FC Meppel, at sports park Ezinge. Walking Football, or Walking Football in Dutch, is very similar to 'regular' football, but has a few different rules. As the name suggests, the players do not run, but walk across the field at a walking pace. That field covers a quarter of a normal football field with small goals in it. A team consists of six field players. No goalkeeper participates and the offside rule does not apply. The ball must not be played above waist height. All these rules are set to keep the physical load as low as possible and to prevent injuries as much as possible. The training starts with an introductory talk. Then there is an hour of training. Frans Fleer, an experienced trainer, supervises the extensive warm-up based on the Athletics Skills Model, the versatile movement. There are big and small balls thrown, football, reaction games and cognitive games are played. Then a number of exercises and games based on football. Frans closes the training with a game. Afterwards, the football players can also chat with a cup of coffee, as if it were a real third half.
