Scarborough Athletic Community Trust has received high praise from the National League Trust for the work they are doing in the community and specifically the release of their Walking Football video.

The Community Trust undertakes a range of activities as part of their Community Outreach Programme which includes Recreational Football for children under 11 years, Recreational Football for women and Walking Football for men.  Additionally, the Trust is working in a number of schools delivering over 200 hours of free football and physical activity sessions, the majority of which benefit children with additional learning needs.  The Trust also continues with monthly Saturday football sessions (The Seagulls) for children and young people with a range of disabilities which are proving to be very popular.

But it’s the work with the Trusts Walking Football initiative that has drawn special mention, Community Engagement Officer Steve Machen said:

“I am really pleased with the outcome of the video but also the comments from the National League Trust who said the video was an inspirational piece of work which highlighted the positive and inclusive nature of the initiative.

We wanted to demonstrate the inclusion aspect to the group as well as the Walking Football activity, we are really pleased with the feedback received and we hope this will encourage others to take up the sport.  The British Heart Foundations Heart Matters Magazine has recently featured an article on Walking Football and has similarly drawn on the positive conclusions and benefits of the sport and echoes the wellbeing and social side that we have found so important”
