A veteran journalist who helps produce print editions of several titles is celebrating after his walking football team clinched its second successive championship.
John Walton, 73, still works two days a week as a content editor for Newsquest from his dining room table in Burnley after more than half a century in the industry.
But in his spare time, John also doubles as player-manager of Burnley Clarets over 70s walking football team.
The team has just won the Greater Manchester Walking Football League Division 2 title, having won the Division 3 championship last term.
Over both seasons the team were unbeaten in 32 games.
Commented John: “It’s the big boys next time, some of the best players in walking football.”
As the name suggests, walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run either with the ball or off the ball.
