Thame Red Kites invite care home residents for walking match

A care home teamed up with the Thame Red Kites Walking Football Team for a special match.

Cuttlebrook Hall, located on Stock Road in Thame, invited the walking football team for a friendly game as part of Care UK’s ‘Goal-den Moments’ initiative, which celebrates football memories and encourages new experiences.

Pat Powell, a resident at Cuttlebrook Hall, said: “It was great. Most of all, I loved the atmosphere of it.

“I never expected to be playing football at this stage of my life. It felt fantastic.”

Volunteers from the Red Kites team led residents through the match and made them honorary members.

Each resident received a custom football kit with their age as the shirt number.

Colin Tomkinson, co-founder of the Red Kites, said: “We want to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity among adults of all ages and abilities in the local community.”

Alana Corr, home manager at Cuttlebrook Hall, said: “We had a ball opening our doors to Thame Red Kites to take part in some walking football.

“For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions.

“This event allowed us to honour these special moments and create new ones to cherish.”

Thame Red Kites host weekly sessions at Lord William Lower School every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm, with a £5 fee and no experience required.

Cuttlebrook Hall provides full-time residential, dementia, and respite care, with onsite facilities that include a cinema, beauty salon, and pub.
