Teign Drifters show their mettle in walking football fixtures

TEIGN Drifters B team went into the third round of Devon FA walking football fixtures with just six players available, but put in a really good account of themselves, reports Rob Morson.

After having to wait two hours in the cold for their first game, they not surprisingly started a bit slowly against a very good South Hams side and were unfortunate to lose by a single well-taken goal.

In the next game, against Torquay, the Drifters hit their stride, Phil Ewen and Mark Janes working together well in the middle and Pete Lee’s hold-up play providing a focus up front.

The Drifters took a deserved 1-0 win courtesy of a low near-post finish by Dave Fay, following a fine through ball from Phil Waite. The next three games all ended 0-0 with Pete Williams in goal dealing with anything that got through the Drifters’ back line. The Drifters were dominant in these games but unable to find a winning goal. So a good return of six points but probably less than they deserved…
