Northampton walking football group hopes to expand its impact

Did you know Northamptonshire Carers have been running a walking football group for the past two years at Quinton House School.

It has been a big success with the group ever-expanding as everyone is welcome, with even a 94-year-old taking part a one stage.

Paul Nichols is one of the people who organises these matches, and it came from his work with people who have COPD:

“I’ve been working with people with COPD as a volunteer for a little while with groups, and exercise wise was a bit low on their agender.

“So we sort of come up with the idea of doing a walking football, where they could come along, get a bit of exercise, but without them knowing they’re getting any exercise.”

“So that’s basically what we’ve done, we got involved with Russel Lewis from the Northampton Town Footballing Community, and we worked on a program to bring the idea and bring it forward within a group, within a COPD setting.

The walking football was so such a success they started including more carers…
