MIDDLEWICH Town Walking Football Club are going from strength to strength, one year after becoming established.

Their players are currently beginning life in the Cheshire FA Walking Football League, with games held monthly at Moss Farm in Northwich.

Providing their leadership is manager Paul Came, the son of ex-professional Mark Came who made 300 appearances with Bolton Wanderers.

They are looking at competing in various other competitions and are sponsored by Manchester Radar Calibration.

Walking football is a slow-paced version of the game aimed at over 50s.

It was initially designed to help get over 50s back into football and increase physical activity through rekindling players’ love for the game again.

The rules are adapted so there is no running, very little contact and kick-ins instead of throw-ins.

With less stress on the body and no real sudden change of direction or cutting movements, the game allows participants to play without apprehension and at their own pace.

Playing the game at walking pace reduces chance of injury and falls, maintains fitness and is also a great way to meet new people.
