The Ninja’s Inspirational story: ‘My ambition is to still be playing walking football at 92’

Michael Fisher began playing football aged 82 upon hearing of the walking football sessions ran by the Walsall FC Foundation, the official charitable arm of Walsall FC. 
Nicknamed ‘The Ninja’ thanks to his penchant for scoring goals, Michael once viewed himself as ‘too old for football’, until he became a member of the weekly sessions that have seen over 300 individuals take part since its inception over a decade ago.

It’s through joining that his perception entirely shifted, learning  age is but a number in a game that doesn’t discriminate, and spurring his new ambition to continue to play well into his 90s.

Michael said: “[The walking football team] are some of the nicest people, they are, and they appreciate my age. They all treat me very, very well.

“I just love football, and as long as I can keep doing it, I’m going to.”
