A walking football team based near Lincoln continues to grow after forming just over a year ago and is now preparing to travel to a tournament in Spain where they will take on European champions Malaga FC.
Players at Burton Waters Imps range from age 21 and 78, with the average age of the squad going out to Spain for the tournament on April 28 being 59.
The club’s founder John Varley, 58, saw how rapidly the sport of walking football was growing and with a group of 8-10 players initially interested he said the local FA encouraged him to set up a team. The team has now grown to over 20 players, with 14-16 regularly at training.
Burton Waters Imps train twice a week – Monday nights at 8pm at David Lloyd in Burton Waters and Wednesday evenings at 6pm on the 3G pitch at Lincoln City FC.
The team always welcomes new players of all ages and anyone interested should email javarley@gmail.com. For training at Lincoln City, it costs £3 pay as you play, and for non-members at David Lloyd it is £5 (members play free)…
