Name: Sid Tobias

Age: 82 on October 12th

Walking Football Club Name: Barnet Over 50s walking football team

How long have you played Walking Football? 3 1/2 years
 

2) Why did you first get involved with Walking Football?

Always been football mad and when my wife saw an advert decided to try it.
 

3) How many times a week do you take part in Walking Football sessions?

1 or 2


4) Describe the buzz you get having the opportunity to play a team sport again at your age?

Always been a goalscorer and enjoyed all sport.

The thrill of the ball hitting the back of the net never goes.

5) What one or two things do you currently do in your training sessions that you think are important to avoid injury?

I am too old to train.

6) Have you played competitive Walking Football, if so which tournaments / leagues?

Yes. National Knock Out cup, over 65 Round  Robin Tournaments other competitive matches.
 

7) Has your diet changed since you have started playing Walking Football? If so what is different?

No.

8) Do you feel fitter and healthier since you have started playing Walking Football and if so in which ways?

Possibly, generally.

9) Have you had any injuries playing and if so what were they?

Yes. Tackled from behind resulting in a torn groin muscle and an op for Hernia.

10) Do you always have a club member present who has had first aid training at your games and training sessions?

Yes at Barnet FC

11) Has your social life changed since you started playing, and if so in what way?

No.
 

12) What are your best and worst memories of playing Walking Football?

Scoring and making goals against much younger players.Having to have a hernia op.
 

13) How else has playing Walking Football affected your life?

Making friends with younger men who make sure I’m OK.
 

14) What do you like most about Walking Football?

Companionship and finding you’ve not lost ALL your skill.
 

15) What do you like least about Walking Football?

Finding out you’ve lost many of your skills.

16) What are your goals for the future when playing Walking Football?

To score more Goals.
 

17) What advice would you give to someone who would like to play but is nervous about approaching a club or attending a Walking Football session for the first time?

Try it.

There will always be somebody worse than you.

18) What do your friends and family think about you playing a sport again at your age?

They are astonished.
 

19) What are the costs involved in order for you to play Walking Football?

£3 a session plus £1 car park 

20) Anything else you’d like to share?

The concept is so obvious I cannot understand why I (or someone else)did not think of it years ago.

It is a pleasure to see so many middle aged men reliving their youth and improving their health.
