he Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority is highlighting the range of sport, exercise and wellbeing activities available to older people across Gibraltar.
At the heart of the programme is the GSLA’s Seniors Recreation Morning, held every Thursday during term time at the Bayside Sports Complex MUGA.
Sessions include low-impact cardio and strength classes for those aged 55 and over, chair exercise for over-68s, and a recreation session offering pickleball, carpet bowls, table tennis and badminton.
A wider range of activities is also available throughout the week, including walking football, cricket and netball, tai chi, pétanque and ten-pin bowling.
The Physical Activities Association for Mature Older Adults – https://paamoa.gi/ – also offers more than 20 land-based exercise classes and 17 water-based classes for people aged 60 and over.
GSLA Chief Executive Reagan Lima says the aim is to ensure every senior knows there is something available for them, whatever their ability or previous sporting experience.
He adds that staying active is one of the best things anyone can do for their health.
