In the UK, someone dies from a heart or circulatory condition every three minutes. That’s about the time it takes to make a cup of tea.
The British Heart Foundation is the largest independent funder of research into heart and circulatory disease in the UK. We’ve funded research which has led to the development of treatments and procedures that we now take for granted such as statins, stents, pacemakers and heart transplants. However as 7.6 million people still face a daily battle with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK there’s still so much to do
We’re currently funding over 800 different research projects across the country. BHF-funded science helps people of all ages including those who have suffered a heart attack and babies born with a congenital heart defect. And we know that heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia and diabetes are all connected, so our research starts with the heart but doesn’t end there.
Therefore, this February, for Heart Month, we’re urging the nation to Go Red, and would be delighted for the walking football community to join us.
Whether it’s losing a loved one to sudden cardiac arrest or coping with the devastating impact of heart failure, far too many of us have felt the heartbreak that heart conditions can cause. But this February, we can give more hearts a fighting chance.
If the walking football community can take on personal challenges for Heart Month or organise walking football matches, five-a-side tournaments, ‘beat’ the goalie competitions, or fun-filled events for the whole family it would fund lifesaving hear research.
