Forfar’s walking footballers have rounded off a spectacular season by lifting Scotland’s Champions League title in a final-kick thriller.
In a near-flawless season, the Sky Blues won silverware as far afield as Portugal.
And at the weekend a last-gasp penalty took the Over-50s men to glory – with a bona fide Loons legend in their ranks.
Thirty years ago, Dougie Craig was part of the Station Park side which lifted the Scottish Third Division title.
But the once-feared defender says walking football has given him as much enjoyment as the senior game ever did.
And the 54-year-old hopes no-one will turn away from giving it a try.
Rapid rise for Forfar walking football side
Last season was Forfar’s first playing competitively and they strolled to the championship title and promotion.
In October, they wrapped up the premier league, just a few weeks after overcoming opposition from Portugal, England, Denmark and Scotland to lift the Algarve Walking Football Cup.
Sunday’s defeat of Pollok Utd sealed the double.
Dougie said Forfar captain and pal Tam Gauld’s invitation to try the sport was a game-changer for him.
“I get asked if it means the same as playing with Forfar,” he said.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter what level you played at. It is about getting out and enjoying the game – and it’s a hard game.
“Walking football started as a mental health and wellbeing thing. It’s helped me a lot and I’m not shy to admit that.
“What it’s done for a lot of the boys is give them back what they had from a young age – the dressing room camaraderie and a love of the game….
