Guilden Morden Walking Football Club are appealing for donations after their vital equipment was stolen.
The team has been playing on the village’s recreation ground since 2018, and is comprised of members aged 40 to 75.
In the early hours of Thursday, August 15, the club’s storage container was broken into and equipment was stolen – including footballs and power supplies and mobile lighting which enable the team to play after dark.
Now with no equipment and very little club funds to cover replacement, the group fears the club may fold once the nights get longer and they have no lighting equipment….
Every year the walking football club raises money for local and national charities where someone they know has benefitted from the charity’s support.
Earlier this year they raised more than £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation, last year they raised money for Alzheimer’s UK and in the previous two years they supported Wheels for Martin’s Friends – a Guilden Morden charity which helps people with disabilities.
The players are now fundraising for the second time this year, but instead of raising money for charity they are now raising money to help the club survive.
