Eastleigh Walking Football Club has been commended by the sport’s national governing body, the Walking Football Association (WFA), in the Grassroots Awards of 2024.
The Spitfires were pipped to the ‘Club of the Year’ award by Barnet but were still highly praised by the WFA.
The recognition comes after Eastleigh introduced a number of new innovations to their club, including a women’s session and a rehab and impairment session, aimed at people recovering from illness and injury.
The club also raised over £3000 in aid of Hampshire Air Ambulance and Eastleigh Basics Food Bank, as well as enjoying success on the pitch with a number of trophy wins.

On the praise of Eastleigh, WFA Grassroots Director Stuart Langworthy said: “We’ve always found them to be a progressive walking football club, having inclusivity and fun at their heart. That’s really important for a walking football club.”
Ian Ritchie, Eastleigh WFC’s Honorary Secretary, said: “We are proud of it. We’ve tried over the last few years to grow the club in terms of numbers and breadth of what we do.”
