Dorset Parky Striders triumph at Walking Football Festival

The Dorset Parky Striders triumphed at the first South West Parkinson’s Walking Football Festival.

The event, put together by Parkinson’s UK South West at Portishead Town Football Club, featured teams from various areas, focusing on the advantages of walking football for those managing Parkinson’s.

Dorset Parky Striders, who are based in Bournemouth, lined up two teams for the event.

Their Team 2 showcased remarkable talent, remaining unbeaten all day and ultimately securing the championship title.

Meanwhile, Team 1 also demonstrated impressive skill, finishing fifth overall.

The matches, contested in great intensity, revealed the growing affinity for walking football in the Parkinson’s community and the camaraderie it nurtures.

Dorset Parky Striders, which offer walking football for those with Parkinson’s, have seen an upward trend in participation and esteem.

Following the victory, Striders’ manager and coach, Mark Seal, expressed gratitude to the organisers and Portishead Town Football Club for their efforts in delivering a successful maiden festival.

He hopes the festival becomes a regular fixture in the south west walking football scene.

This event underscores the health benefits and sense of community fostered by walking football, particularly for those living with Parkinson’s.
