AGE is no barrier for this group of footballers who have built a strong bond over their love of the beautiful game while keeping fit and fighting social isolation.

Since launching earlier this year, the Craig Molloy Coaching walking football group has continued to give young at heart players the chance to kick a ball again.

The over 50s club invites players of all abilities to take part in friendly five-a-side games every Thursday with around 25 people showing up each week.

Craig said the idea to set up the group came about after seeing a close friend’s father struggle after loosing his wife and he wanted to improve his mental health.

The former St Mirren player and coach started the group at Gibshill Community Centre with only a handful of men, but as word spread of how much fun the group was having, they moved to Lady Octavia sports centre.

Craig said the group is about more than keeping fit in older age, it is also about building connections.
