Stockport County Community Trust has announced Karen Ainley as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of her commitment and contribution to the charity’s walking football programme.
This month has seen clubs across all professional leagues celebrating the More Than A Game initiative by nominating their own Community Captains, highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.
Poynton-based Karen was chosen as County’s 2025 Community Captain in recognition of her incredible commitment to her community through our popular walking football programme. She co-founded the women’s team exactly two years ago (having identified a niche for the sport in the Stockport area) and has been a regular in the side ever since, attending the weekly training sessions and playing in regional tournaments.

Karen also volunteers for the walking football programme, assisting Community Sports Co-ordinator Matti Oates before mixed and women’s training sessions, and attending strategy meetings at Edgeley Park with Inclusion Manager Daniel Landstrom.
