A group of walking footballers has raised hundreds of pounds in memory of a founding member who died of cancer.
Members of Bridport Walking Football Club held their annual five-a-side competition to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer in memory of their friend, Stuart Broom, who helped create the social group.
Stuart sadly passed away after battling pancreatic cancer in 2022 and the group has held the commemorative football match in his honour every year since.
Four teams took part in the competition in St Mary’s Field.
The winners, Ray Sheehan, John Land, Rob Jacobs and Kevin Ackerman were presented with the Stuart Broom trophy from Chairman and Stuart’s friend Kevin Moys.

This year was the most successful year to date, raising a total of £425 from the day and through donations from the walking club throughout the year.
Last year, the group raised £400 , and the former winners were presented with the trophy by local Bridport player Peter Collis who has gone on to represent England after graduating from the club.
Mr Moys said that next year will be a particularly memorable event as Stuart’s daughter will be attending. His two grandsons are also set to participate alongside the regular players.
The group fundraise for many charities in Bridport that are close to their hearts, including Bridport Foodbank and Mountjoy School in Beaminster which supports children with special educational needs.
In the past, members of the walking football team have also donated towards the conflict in Ukraine.
The charities that they support are selected at their annual members meeting in September.
The footballers play every Friday morning and the £3 they pay to play goes towards supporting local causes.
The group is predominantly for people over 55 who want to remain playing, Mr Moys said, but their oldest player is 83 years old.
He said: “It’s a nice kick around and we do enter competitions every now and then but is mainly to get people together to have a bit of fun.”
