As the clock ticks down to Malta’s crucial European qualifier against England, an unexpected and heartwarming chapter unfolded in the lead-up to the match. The Malta FA, through its Football Social Responsibility (FSR) department, coincidentally hosted an international walking football match between Malta and England, adding a touch of unity and shared spirit to the competitive atmosphere.
This unique collaboration between the Malta FA’s FSR department and England Parkinson’s Football, a team comprised of individuals with Parkinson’s, traces its roots back to 2022. Facilitated by the non-governmental organization Step Up for Parkinson Malta, the partnership aimed to bring people together through the common language of football, transcending borders and challenging physical limitations.
British compatriots from England Parkinson’s Football made the journey to Malta, engaging not only in the spirited walking football match but also in various sporting activities on the island. The highlight of the collaboration was a joint training session with coaches from the Malta FA’s FSR department, showcasing the dedication of all parties involved to promote the benefits of walking football for individuals with Parkinson’s.
