The Cumberland FA is looking for an ‘expression of interest’ from Cumberland-based referees who would be interested in learning how to become a qualified Walking Football Referee, as we are planning courses for April and June.

Cumberland FA Referee Development Officer, Scott, said “We are looking to expand our qualified Walking Football Referee workforce by putting on a couple of courses during 2026. This is a great opportunity for some of our more senior referees in particular to enhance their refereeing skills for a slower format of the game.
We see a lot referees leave the grassroots game each season as they get older and one way for some to stay in the game is to consider Walking Football.
“Time and tide wait for no man” is the famous Chaucer saying isn’t it? Well perhaps leaving the faster paced game to join those already trained in Walking Football is the next sensible step forward for some of our referees in Cumberland.
Walking Football Refereeing in Cumberland
We are planning a local course for April during the Easter break and looking to collaborate with Northumberland FA and jointly stage a course in June in the North East. Both courses will require candidates to attend Cumberland FA Walking Football Festivals to complete their practical referee training.
Like all our Referee Courses there is a fee involved but the cost to the candidate is yet to be finalised, however, that should not deter anyone from expressing their interest.”
