St Joseph’s Men’s Walking Football team regain Marsh & Quay trophy

The St Joseph’s Men’s Walking Football team have got their hands on a trophy they hold in high regard.

The annual Marsh & Quay trophy is close to the fabric of the club as it was donated by their stalwart Derek Stephenson in honour of his brothers.

It was first played for in 2018 and St Joseph’s have managed to keep it in Workington six times but lost out last year.

Regaining the trophy was a result of a 2-0 win against Gretna (Armstrong, Grievson), 1-0 versus Queen of the South (Armstrong pen) and although beaten 3-0 by Carlisle United they reached the final.

There they gained their revenge, for after a 1-1 draw (Armstrong) they won the penalty shoot-out.

They are back in action this Sunday in the FA Cup regional round at Washington, Tyne and Wear, fielding teams at over 50 and over 60 levels.
