Malvern Town FC Walking Football – Langland Stadium

A walking football group is helping people rediscover the joys of the “beautiful game.”

The sessions are held at Malvern Town FC and open to anyone aged 50 and above, regardless of ability.

They have quickly become a hit for older adults looking to stay active, social, and connected through sport.

Launched in April, the weekly sessions have attracted more than 20 regular attendees, ranging in age from 50 to 86.

Dave Baker, founder, said: “It has been a pleasure to be part of a group that approaches the game not only in a competitive nature, but in the true spirit of the game.

“Our aim is to make it enjoyable for all abilities; a chance to get a little fitter, whilst meeting new people of a similar age and ultimately enjoy playing football again.”

He said the sessions have been especially meaningful for those recovering from illness or injury.

“We have members who are recovering from illness, old football niggles and dodgy knees and joints, who never thought that they would kick a ball again, but now they are turning up each week and loving every minute of it,” he said.

For the month of September 2026, sessions take place every Wednesday evening from 8.30pm to 9.30pm at Langland Stadium.
They are open to all over-50s, with each session costing £5.
New members are welcome to join and experience the social, physical, and emotional benefits of walking football.

The sessions also promote inclusion and community spirit, with the pitch often shared by the walking football group, the Malvern Town first team, and young players.

Rob Norton, a regular participant, praised the atmosphere and facilities.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.

“The pitch and facilities are fantastic and the Malvern Hills always makes a lovely backdrop.

“I also like the way that this group highlights individual players after each session and spreads the benefits of Walking Football to the wider community, giving people more self-worth along the way.”

Steve Morris, who also attends regularly, said: “The sessions are ‘serious fun.’

“Aside from the benefits of ‘keeping moving,’ there is also the wellbeing factor of sharing the experience with like-minded people.

“Whilst the games are played in a competitive spirit, there is humour and an understanding that we are no longer spring chickens.

“I absolutely love it.”
