A local walking football club, with 160 members, held its annual charity tournament.

Norwich Soca Seniors play at the FDC in Bowthorpe with four club sessions per week, with one set aside for intermediate players.

The club has supported many charities since they started hosting charity tournaments, raising some £30,000 for their selected good causes.

Sunday saw 33 teams from across the South-East making it one of the biggest one-day walking football tournaments in the country, with more than 250 players taking part.

Two teams travelled from Malta, the triple X’s.

Norwich Soca Seniors edged Norwich City CSF in the over 50s final, Boston beat Norwich Soca Seniors 65s in the over 60s and Norwich Soca Seniors won against Sleaford.

The two main charities supported on Sunday were the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Age UK Norwich.

They also invited PocDoc, an innovative diagnostic company, to provide free Heart Health Checks, adding a practical screening element to the event and reinforcing healthy lifestyle and exercise.

The British Heart Foundation is the UK’s leading independent funder of research into heart and circulatory disease, while Age UK Norwich supports older people in Norwich and the wider area with advice, wellbeing, and practical services.

PocDoc complements both charities by offering quick at-home or community-based heart health checks that help identify risk earlier and guide next steps.

The charities were selected by the NSS membership – BHF due to a number of events that impacted the membership and their families, Age UK Norwich for their work in supporting seniors in the community.

POC Doc were invited as they are developing a simple test to determine cardiovascular disease earlier, supporting the NHS in its prevention and early diagnosis strategies to reduce pressure in acute care.
