A walking football club is planning a non-stop 10-hour challenge to raise funds for a cancer charity.

1874 Northwich Walking Football Club will host the event at Cheshire FA HQ at Moss Farm on Wednesday, April 29, and aim to play continuously from 7am until 5pm.

Funds raised will support Prostate Cancer UK, with the event also seeking to raise awareness of the disease.

The club wrote in a statement: “We are not charging to take part in the football match, but there are plenty of opportunities to donate to Prostate Cancer UK, both physically and online.

“We are grateful to Cheshire FA for their support with this event.”

Members of the club’s men’s and women’s sections will take part, alongside other invited local clubs.

The event will include activities to boost understanding of prostate cancer, including risk assessment cards, along with a raffle, a tombola, and a sweepstake on the total number of goals scored.

Organisers stress that early detection of prostate cancer greatly improves treatment options, but most men with early-stage prostate cancer do not show symptoms.

Prostate Cancer UK estimates that one in eight men will develop prostate cancer, with higher risks for men over 50, black men, and those with a family history.

Funds raised will go toward lifesaving research, essential support services, and raising vital awareness of prostate cancer.

Supporters can donate online or in person on the day. Entry to take part in the challenge is free.
