Mick Hill: Whilst arranging fixtures for this year’s round 1 matches it has become apparent that some teams from Wales may have been playing without insurance cover.
The affiliation process for teams with the English FA includes the purchase of public liability and personal injury insurance either through the FA or by proof of purchase from outside agents.
This has to be completed before the affiliation process can be completed and thus provides cover for teams, officials and players both whilst training with clubs and playing in FA affiliated events.
With the growth of younger age groups within walking football this Insurance cover perhaps becomes even more important due to the fact that many of the younger players will still be employment.
We believe that a similar arrangement will be in place next year between FAW and walking football teams that affiliate with the FAW.
The WFLA would encourage all teams that are affiliated outside of the English FA to check your insurance status for the competitions that you play in. Are you covered? If not is it a risk worth taking?
Just a reminder that the cover from other organisations not connected with the English FA may not cover you for FA affiliated events.
