The Walking Football Leagues Alliance Tournament Committee held a meeting and finalised the format for the National Cup.
Details for each age category – Mixed Over 50s / Mixed Over 60s / Mixed Over 65s / Mixed Over 70s / Womens Over 40s / Womens Over 50s – detailing the route to Finals Day as follows;
WFLA National Cup Over 50s
Round 1 (91 teams) – 16 pools of varying sizes and 34 teams progress
Round 2 – 6 pools (4 x 6 and 2 x 5) with 18 teams progressing
Round 3 – 3 pools, 6 teams in each and 6 teams progressing
Round 4 Finals Weekend – 6 teams
WFLA National Cup Over 60s
Round 1 (87 teams) – 15 pools of varying sizes 36 teams progress.
Round 2 – 6 pools with 6 teams in each pool and 18 teams progress
Round 3 – 3 pools with 6 teams in each pool and 6 teams progress
Round 4 (Finals Weekend) – 6 teams
WFLA National Cup Over 65s
Round 1 (54 teams) – 15 pools of varying sizes and 24 teams progress
Round 2 – 4 pools, 6 teams in each with 18 teams progressing.
Round 3 – 3 pools, 6 teams in each with 6 teams progressing
Round 4 (Finals Weekend) – 6 teams
WFLA National Cup Over 70s
Round 1 – ALL teams receive a bye
Round 2 (33 teams) – 7 pools of varying sizes and 18 teams progress
Round 3 – 3 pools, 6 teams in each and 6 teams progressing
Round 4 (Finals Weekend) – 6 teams
WFLA National Cup Women’s Over 40s
ALL Teams are through to the semi-final stages scheduled for June/July. There are 17 teams split into 3 semi-final pools (2 x 6 teams and 1 x 5 teams).
2 teams from each pool will progress to Finals Weekend.
Women’s WFLA National Cup over 50s
ALL teams progress to the semi-final stages scheduled for June/July. 13 teams have been split into 4 pools (1 x4 and 3 x 3 teams).
2 teams will progress from the group of 4 into finals day. The winner of each of the pool of 3 will progress to finals day plus the best performing runner up from the 3 pools.
6 teams will be progress to finals weekend.
As a reminder the dates for each round are as follows;
Round 1 – 1st January – 31st March
Round 2 – 1st April – 31st May
Round 3 – 1st June – 31st July
Grand Finals – 7th & 8th September
Teams will be contacted with details of which pool they have been allocated in each age category.
Although the format of each category is very similar the amount of teams entered means some slight differences.
The WFLA still has 4 rounds for each category and the number of pools in each category does vary (and each category will be detailed in further posts)
Each category will finish with 6 teams in each category attending the Finals weekend in September.
