A walking football tournament was lit up with star quality after a familiar face from television decided to get stuck in.

Bolton-born star David Potts, familiar to viewers as head rep on ITV2’s Ibiza Weekender and as winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2024, took part in the charity event at Active Bolton Arena.

He was one of a community side who took on Bolton Wanderers Legends in a friendly match held as part of the build-up to Bolton’s inaugural charity walking football tournament.

David said: “I absolutely loved playing, it was such a laugh getting stuck in with the community team.

“I nearly scored a goal there too, so close!

“It’s a brilliant tournament bringing together people of all ages and from all walks of life and local people should definitely get a team together for the tournament in September.”

David wore one of the community team’s black Bolton’s Walking Football Tournament T-shirts alongside players ranging in age from 67 to 18.

The community side held the BWFC Legends scoreless until two minutes before half-time, when the seasoned Legends side found the net past the community team’s keeper.

The experience of the Legends showed in the second half, with three further goals taking the final score to 4-0.

David himself came close to scoring, with a shot on goal that narrowly missed the target to cheers from the spectators.

The match, held at Active Bolton Arena, was described as competitive but good-natured throughout, highlighting the message walking football’s proponents wanted to promote.

The match formed part of the build-up to Bolton’s inaugural charity walking football tournament on Saturday, September 26 at Active Bolton Arena.

Members of the public, family teams, workplace teams and community groups all have the chance to enter a team, compete for a trophy, and walk away with a medal on the day.
Teams will also have the chance to play against Bolton Wanderers FC Legends.
The tournament is part of Ken Heathcote's NotOutAt90 campaign, and proceeds will support the Stroke Association, Cancer Research UK, and the Alzheimer's Society.

This was organised in collaboration with Bolton Council’s Let’s Keep Bolton Moving initiative.

Mr Heathcote said: “It was fantastic to see the community and BWFC Legends players out on the pitch together, and to have David Potts join in and show his support means a great deal.

“This tournament is all about bringing Bolton together to have fun, get active, and raise money for causes that matter to so many local families.

“I’d encourage anyone thinking about entering a team to get in touch now, places are limited.”
